Royal British Legion Scotland

      given

Freedom of the City of Perth

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Fair City of Perth on this historic occasion.

The Granting of the Freedom of the City of Perth to the Royal British Legion Scotland will be a unique and memorable event. The honour being bestowed is a fitting tribute to a charitable organisation which has done so much to provide support to servicemen and women past and present.

It seemed appropriate to combine the Freedom Ceremony with a Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the D Day Landings and I am delighted with the response to this event from throughout Scotland and beyond.

Perth is a well known focal point for important commemorations and we have been privileged to host events to mark the 50th Anniversary of VE and VJ Days and also the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein.

I would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to make this such a special occasion and hope that you will go home with warm thoughts of Perth and its contribution to recognising such a worthy organisation as the Royal British Legion Scotland.

Thank you for coming.

Provost Bob Scott, JP
